Rumus BMI

BMI = berat badan (kg) ÷ tinggi badan (m)²

Contohnya, berat 60 kg dan tinggi 165 cm: 60 ÷ (1,65 × 1,65) ≈ 22,0.

Kategori Asia-Pasifik dan kategori umum WHO

KategoriAsia-PasifikWHO umum
Kurusdi bawah 18,5di bawah 18,5
Normal18,5–22,918,5–24,9
Berat berlebih23–24,9 (berisiko)25–29,9
Obesitas I25–29,930–34,9

Memperkirakan kebutuhan kalori harian

Masih di halaman yang sama:

  1. Pilih Aktivitas harian, dari Jarang bergerak (kerja duduk, tanpa olahraga) sampai Sangat berat (kerja fisik / atlet).

Kapan BMI kurang tepat

Berapa BMI ideal orang Indonesia?

Many people calculate their BMI (Body Mass Index) and feel reassured because the result is "normal". Yet for Asian people, the commonly used category limits differ from the general WHO categories. A BMI of 24, for example, is still normal in the general categories but already counts as overweight in the Asia-Pacific categories.

The BMI & Calorie Calculator on KASKOW shows both sets of categories, calculated in your browser with no data uploaded.

Important

All results are general estimates, not medical advice. For diet plans, pregnancy or specific health conditions, consult a doctor or nutritionist.

The BMI formula

BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)²

For example, a weight of 60 kg and a height of 165 cm: 60 ÷ (1.65 × 1.65) ≈ 22.0.

Asia-Pacific and general WHO categories

CategoryAsia-PacificGeneral WHO
Underweightbelow 18.5below 18.5
Normal18.5–22.918.5–24.9
Overweight23–24.9 (at risk)25–29.9
Obese I25–29.930–34.9
Obese II30 and above35–39.9
Obese III—40 and above

The Asia-Pacific limits are lower because health risks for Asian people generally rise at lower BMI levels. These categories apply to adults aged 18 and over.

For example, a weight of 66 kg and a height of 165 cm give a BMI of about 24.2. Under the general WHO categories that is Normal, but under Asia-Pacific it is already Overweight (at risk).

Steps in the calculator

  1. Open the BMI & Calorie Calculator.
  2. Under Your details, choose Male or Female, then enter your Age, Height and Weight. Choose Metric (cm, kg) or Imperial (ft, lb).
  3. See your BMI and its category. Choose Asia-Pacific or WHO general under BMI categories, and see Where your BMI sits on the scale.
  4. Check the Healthy weight range for your height. For a height of 165 cm with Asia-Pacific categories, it is about 50–62 kg.

Estimating your daily calorie needs

On the same page:

  1. Choose your Daily activity, from Sedentary (desk job, no exercise) to Very active (physical job / athlete).
  2. See your BMR (resting energy), an estimate of the calories your body burns at complete rest.
  3. See your Daily calories (TDEE), which is your BMR multiplied by an activity factor.
  4. Daily calorie targets show estimates for maintaining, losing or gaining weight.

A common guideline for losing weight is to eat about 500 kcal per day below your TDEE, roughly equal to losing 0.5 kg per week. Avoid very large deficits, and discuss any diet plan with a health professional.

The calculator also shows an estimated Water per day. Actual needs can be higher when exercising or in hot weather.

When BMI is less accurate

BMI doesn't distinguish muscle from fat. That makes it less accurate for:

  • athletes or people with a lot of muscle,
  • pregnant and breastfeeding women,
  • children and teenagers, who use BMI-for-age charts,
  • older adults.

For a complete health assessment, waist measurement and a check-up by a health professional give a better picture.

Frequently asked questions

What is a healthy BMI for Indonesians? Under the Asia-Pacific categories commonly used for Asian people, a normal BMI is 18.5–22.9.

Is my body data sent to a server? No. All calculations run in your browser.

Why do my calorie results differ from other apps? Each tool may use different formulas and activity factors. This calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation for BMR. Treat the numbers as a starting point, then adjust them based on how your weight changes.
