Cara mengecek dan menghapus lokasi GPS dari foto sebelum dibagikanHow to check and remove the GPS location from a photo before sharing it

Foto dari HP bisa diam-diam menyimpan titik lokasi tempat foto diambil, termasuk rumah Anda. Begini cara mengecek apakah foto menyimpan lokasi, menghapusnya tanpa menurunkan kualitas, dan kapan Anda perlu melakukannya.

Phone photos can quietly store the exact spot where they were taken, including your home. Here is how to check whether a photo stores a location, remove it without lowering quality, and when you need to.

Apakah aplikasi obrolan otomatis menghapus lokasi?

Every phone photo stores more than just a picture. Inside the file is a hidden record called EXIF: the phone make and model, the date and time it was taken, camera settings and, if the camera's location feature is on, the GPS coordinates where the photo was taken.

Those coordinates are accurate enough to point to your home, your child's school or your office. Anyone who receives the original file can open them on a map.

When a location in a photo is a concern

Not every way of sharing removes this data. The risk is greater when:

  • The photo is sent as a document or file, not as a regular photo in a chat app.
  • The photo is attached to an email or shared through a storage link.
  • The photo is uploaded to a forum, marketplace or website that keeps files as they are.
  • Photos of items for sale are taken inside your home.
  • Photos of children are taken at home or at school.

If in doubt, assume the data goes along with the file, and clean it first.

Steps to check a photo's location

  1. Open Image Metadata & Colors on KASKOW.
  2. Click Choose files, drag and drop the photo, or paste it with Ctrl+V.
  3. Basic info, camera data and the colour palette appear instantly.
  4. If the photo stores a location, a This photo contains a location warning appears with the coordinates and a View on map link.

The photo is read entirely in your browser, including its location data. Nothing is sent to the KASKOW server.

Steps to remove the location and metadata

  1. With the photo selected, click Remove metadata.
  2. The tool creates a new copy that looks the same but has no EXIF, GPS or similar hidden data.
  3. Click Download, then share the downloaded file, not the original.

A few things worth knowing:

  • For JPG, PNG and WebP, the image is not recompressed, so its quality doesn't change.
  • The orientation of phone photos is kept, so the photo won't suddenly appear sideways.
  • The original file on your device doesn't change.
  • You can select many photos at once. With more than one result, they are all packed into a single .zip file.

What EXIF stores

DataExampleRisk
GPS locationCoordinates where the photo was takenYour home address or routine can be read
Date and timeWhen the photo was takenShows when you were somewhere
Camera make and modelThe phone usedLow, but still personal information
SoftwareThe editing app usedLow

Preventing it from the start

If you rarely need a location in your photos, turn off location permission for the camera app in your phone settings. Photos taken afterwards won't store coordinates. Older photos still need cleaning manually.

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn't my photo show any EXIF at all? Screenshots, images downloaded from social media and photos that have been edited often no longer contain EXIF. There is also no location if the camera's location feature was off when the photo was taken.

Do chat apps remove the location automatically? Some apps remove it when a photo is sent as a regular image, but not always when it is sent as a document. Since every app behaves differently and behaviour can change, cleaning it yourself is the surest way.

Can I also get colour codes from the photo? Yes. On the same page, an 8-colour palette of dominant colours appears automatically. Click a colour to copy its HEX code, or click anywhere on the image to get its HEX and RGB codes.

Other data in the photo is sensitive too, such as the ID number on an ID card. Metadata is only the hidden data. To cover data that is visible in the image, see how to redact an ID card photo before sending it.
