Cara mengenalinya: jika PDF langsung meminta kata sandi saat dibuka, itu kata sandi pembuka. Jika PDF terbuka normal tetapi menu cetak atau salin tidak aktif, itu batasan.
Kapan membuka kunci itu wajar
- Anda ingin menyimpan arsip rekening koran atau slip gaji sendiri tanpa harus mengetik kata sandi setiap kali.
- Anda perlu menggabungkan beberapa dokumen terkunci milik Anda menjadi satu berkas, misalnya untuk pengajuan kredit.
- Anda perlu mencetak dokumen milik Anda yang diberi batasan cetak.
- Alat PDF lain menolak file Anda karena terenkripsi.
Alat pembuka kunci yang layak tidak menebak atau membobol kata sandi. Gunakan hanya untuk dokumen milik Anda atau yang Anda berhak buka. Membuka dokumen orang lain tanpa izin bisa melanggar hukum dan privasi mereka.
Langkah membuka kunci PDF
- Buka alat pembuka kunci, misalnya Buka Kunci PDF di KASKOW.
- Klik Pilih file atau seret dan lepas PDF. Banyak PDF yang memakai kata sandi sama, misalnya rekening koran beberapa bulan, bisa dipilih sekaligus.
- Ketik kata sandi pembuka di kolom Kata sandi PDF. Bila PDF hanya memiliki batasan tanpa kata sandi pembuka, kolom ini bisa dikosongkan.
- Klik Buka kunci.
- Klik Unduh. Hasilnya adalah PDF tanpa kata sandi dan tanpa batasan.
Untuk alat ini, file dikirim ke server KASKOW, diproses di memori, lalu langsung dikembalikan tanpa disimpan. Kata sandi yang Anda ketik tidak diingat di perangkat.
Tidak tahu kata sandinya?
Jangan mencoba menebak berulang-ulang. Langkah yang lebih tepat:
- Baca email atau surat pengantarnya. Bank dan kantor biasanya menjelaskan format kata sandi, misalnya gabungan tanggal lahir dan beberapa digit nomor rekening.
- Perhatikan format tanggal. Apakah
DDMMYYYY,DDMMYY, atauYYYYMMDD? Kesalahan format adalah penyebab paling umum. - Perhatikan huruf besar dan kecil. Kata sandi PDF membedakan keduanya.
- Hubungi pengirim. Minta penjelasan format kata sandi, atau minta dokumen dikirim ulang.
Setelah kunci dibuka
File tanpa kunci kini bisa diolah dengan alat PDF lain. Contoh alur yang sering dipakai:

Jaga keamanan file yang sudah terbuka
Menghapus kunci berarti dokumen kini bisa dibuka siapa pun yang memegang file-nya. Beberapa hal yang patut dijaga:
- Simpan di folder pribadi, bukan di folder bersama atau komputer umum.
- Hapus salinan sementara dari folder unduhan setelah dipindahkan ke tempat yang aman.
- Kunci kembali sebelum mengirimkannya ke pihak lain.
- Jangan mengunggah ulang dokumen keuangan ke layanan yang tidak jelas kebijakan privasinya.
Masalah yang sering muncul
Muncul pesan kata sandi salah. Periksa format, huruf besar dan kecil, serta spasi tersembunyi di awal atau akhir bila Anda menyalin-tempel kata sandi.
Alat mengatakan PDF tidak terkunci. Artinya file tidak memiliki kata sandi atau batasan. Jika alat lain tetap menolak, kemungkinan file rusak atau bukan PDF yang sah.
PDF masih tidak bisa disalin teksnya setelah dibuka kuncinya. Kemungkinan PDF itu hasil pindai, sehingga halamannya berupa gambar tanpa lapisan teks. Penjelasannya ada di cara mengambil teks dari file PDF.
File terlalu besar. Alat pembuka kunci yang dibahas di atas menerima hingga 60 MB per file. Untuk file yang lebih besar, gunakan aplikasi pembaca PDF di komputer Anda yang mendukung penyimpanan tanpa kata sandi setelah Anda memasukkan kata sandinya.
Many banks, offices and service providers send documents as password-protected PDFs. Bank statements, payslips, credit card bills and insurance policies are usually protected with a password such as the owner's birth date or part of an ID number. That's a good security step while the document is in transit. But once the document is in your hands, the lock is often a nuisance: it has to be typed every time you open the file, and the file can't be processed with other PDF tools.
This article explains how to remove the lock from a PDF that belongs to you and whose password you know, or from a PDF that only has restrictions.
Two kinds of PDF protection

How to tell them apart: if the PDF asks for a password as soon as you open it, that's an open password. If the PDF opens normally but the print or copy options are greyed out, those are restrictions.
When unlocking is reasonable
- You want to archive your own bank statements or payslips without typing the password every time.
- You need to merge several of your own locked documents into one file, for example for a loan application.
- You need to print your own document that has a print restriction.
- Another PDF tool rejects your file because it's encrypted.
A proper unlocking tool does not guess or crack passwords. Use it only for documents that belong to you or that you're entitled to open. Opening someone else's documents without permission may break the law and violate their privacy.
Steps to unlock a PDF
- Open an unlocking tool, for example Unlock PDF on KASKOW.
- Click Choose file or drag and drop the PDF. Many PDFs with the same password, such as several months of bank statements, can be selected at once.
- Type the open password in the PDF password field. If the PDF only has restrictions and no open password, you can leave this field empty.
- Click Unlock.
- Click Download. The result is a PDF with no password and no restrictions.
For this tool, the file is sent to the KASKOW server, processed in memory, then returned right away without being stored. The password you type is not remembered on your device.
Don't know the password?
Don't keep guessing over and over. Better steps:
- Read the cover email or letter. Banks and offices usually explain the password format, such as a combination of birth date and a few digits of the account number.
- Check the date format. Is it
DDMMYYYY,DDMMYYorYYYYMMDD? A wrong format is the most common cause. - Mind upper and lower case. PDF passwords are case-sensitive.
- Contact the sender. Ask them to explain the password format, or to resend the document.
After unlocking
The unlocked file can now be processed with other PDF tools. A common workflow:
- Unlock several months of bank statements at once.

Keep the unlocked file safe
Removing the lock means anyone who has the file can now open it. A few things worth keeping in mind:
- Store it in a private folder, not a shared folder or public computer.
- Delete temporary copies from your downloads folder once moved somewhere safe.
- Lock it again before sending it to anyone else.
- Don't re-upload financial documents to services with unclear privacy policies.
Common problems
A wrong-password message appears. Check the format, upper and lower case, and hidden spaces at the start or end if you copy-pasted the password.
The tool says the PDF isn't locked. That means the file has no password or restrictions. If another tool still rejects it, the file may be damaged or not a valid PDF.
Text still can't be copied after unlocking. The PDF is probably a scan, so its pages are images without a text layer. This is explained in how to extract text from a PDF.
The file is too large. The unlocking tool described above accepts up to 60 MB per file. For larger files, use a PDF reader app on your computer that can save without the password after you enter it.
